Christmas in Madrid

Lighting Contest Winners

Home

This year, as in previous years, the Merchants of Madrid chipped in for prizes to reward those home and business owners who created the best lighting displays in a number of categories.  Residents and visitors were invited to vote for the winners.  The results were announced by Santa on December 9 at the Mine Shaft Tavern.  Here is a report on the winners.  Click on the pictures to see a full screen view

House Lighting - Grand Prize - $100

Sheila Goggin at 29 Back Road won for her imaginative use of gallon milk jugs as luminarias.  Her urging of all the residents to be sure to come and see her home and vote probably helped as well.

Business Lighting - Grand Prize - Christmas Dues 2007

Conley Studio Pottery and Friends decorated by Lisa Conley was the business category winner this year.  Congratulations Lisa.

This category was very close with the Old Boarding House and Java Junction coming in close second and third.

House Lighting - Peace - $50

The winner in this category was Bethany at her home/Gallery called Texture.  There was a bit of controversy about this because of the dual use but Bethany was not eligible this year in the business category so we felt it was appropriate that she receive the prize.

Winner - Madrid Madness

House Lighting - Madrid Madness - $50

While it wasn't anticipated that one home would win two prizes, the only two entries who got several votes were Sheila's and Java Junction.  Java is a business and wasn't eligible in this category so Sheila got both prizes.

House Decorating - Christmas Spirit - $50

Last but not least, Bob Selby, one of the original re-settlers of Madrid won the Christmas Spirit category for the decoration of his home on main street.
